6 Ways To Celebrate Emirati Women’s Day 2022
In 2015, the date August 28 was chosen by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Al Ketbi, the wife of the late Sheikh Zayed and Mother of the Nation, to mark the anniversary of the formation of the UAE’s general women’s union. This August will mark the seventh annual Emirati Women’s Day, a special event that gives tribute to all Emirati women highlighting their extraordinary contributions and their valued role in the UAE’s society.
Earlier this year, Her Highness announced that the theme for Emirati Women’s Day 2022 will be “Inspiring Reality... Sustainable Future” (WAM, 2022), implying that due to their diligence and innovation, Emirati women have proven that no undertaking is impossible. In her speech on the occasion, Sheikha Fatima said that the theme of the 2022 edition emphasizes the country’s journey with women’s empowerment, which began nearly 50 years ago with the creation of the UAE in 1971 by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who prioritized investing in human resources and believing that people are the true wealth of the nation. He also prioritized gender equality.
