Funding Granted by Diriyah Biennale for Riyadh Embroidery Workshop

The Diriyah Biennale has unveiled an exciting opportunity for individuals within the Kingdom, presenting two artist grants for participation in the forthcoming Embroidery Landscapes workshop in Riyadh on August 19th. This workshop aims to share knowledge on textiles, embroidery, heritage, and ecology. The main goal is to encourage designers, artists, and craftsmen to work together, creating a collection of symbols inspired by Diriyah's wild plants and insects. These symbols will then be transformed into embroidery patterns.

Esteemed artists Lucy and Jorge Orta will steer the workshop, an integral facet of the "Biennale Encounters" series of events that will set the stage for the much-anticipated 2024 Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale.

To become part of this creative endeavor, interested candidates are required to submit a portfolio showcasing pertinent works, accompanied by a 200-word narrative detailing their background and experience. Submissions are welcomed in either English or Arabic. The workshop will be conducted primarily in English, though translation services will be on hand to aid Arabic speakers.

Acknowledging the diverse locations of artists and designers across the Kingdom, the Diriyah Biennale Foundation has thoughtfully put forth grants to support two participants. These grants will encompass lodging arrangements and domestic travel expenses to and from Riyadh. The workshop will be thoughtfully curated, admitting a maximum of 25 participants, with all necessary materials being provided.

The workshop's venue is the Diriyah Biennale Foundation space at the JAX District in Riyadh, scheduled from 2 to 6 pm on August 19th. Following this enriching workshop, artists Lucy and Jorge will host a public discourse from 7 to 9 pm.

For those eager to partake, applications are to be sent via email to [email protected] by the deadline of August 18th. This endeavor marks a remarkable opportunity for Kingdom-based creators to immerse themselves in the vibrant tapestry of art, culture, and collaboration that the Diriyah Biennale fosters.
