5 Top Red Carpet Fashion Trends At The Sag Awards

As film and television stars were honoured during the 23^rd Annual SAG Awards, held in LA on 29 January, we couldn’t help but ogle at their fashion A-game. We have handpicked five of the major fashion themes that stood out. And whether our favourite celebrities wore black, white, brights, stripes or metallics, they made it a point of stepping out in style just before the Oscars…

Stunning Stripes
Some of the stars who chose bold, fun and punchy stripes included Michelle Williams in her metallic column gown, “Downton Abbey” star Michelle Dockery and Yara Shahidi.  Naomie Harris cherry-picked a jumpsuit to show off the trend.

Elegant Black
Kate Hudson’s sheer panelled number, Octavia Spencer’s elegant choice, winner Claire Foy’s delicate look and Kathryn Hahn’s velvet gown helped to make black one of the most popular colours of the night. Winner Emma Stone’s see-through flowery dress and Amy Adams’s classic, floor length gown also helped!

The Tropics
While many stars wore bright pops of colour, most notably red and pink, others opted for different ways to take us to the tropics. Gina Rodriguez wore a low-cut dress with bird of paradise patterns while Nicole Kidman wore a love it or hate it dramatic sequin dress with feathered parrots.

Decadent Iridescence
It seems neutral metallic is the colour of this year’s awards season and stars like Emily Blunt were spotted rocking it. Teresa Palmer, however, chose a silver and black shimmering gown. Other unique looks included Ariel Winter’s metallic glamour in a gold dress and Thandie Newton’s shiny statement look.

Minimalist White
A line-up of white, long-associated with the suffrage movement, took over the Shrine Auditorium. Stars in floor-length gowns in the pristine colour included a pregnant Natalie Portman, Meryl Streep and Kirsten Dunst. Plus, Kerry Washington chose an off-the-shoulder model, while winner Viola Davis dazzled in a strapless one. Alternatively, Danielle Brookes chose an embroidered top with a train and wide-legged white pants.
