Saudi Students to Compete in Esteemed Maths Competition

Students from Saudi Arabia will compete in the International Mathematical Olympiad 2022, which will be held in Norway from July 9 to July 16, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is a yearly competition for students in algebra, geometry, set theory, and combinatorics.

According to Arab News, the IMO will feature over 600 students from various countries around the world.

Six Saudi high school students will compete in the IMO 2022: Moaz Al-Ghamdi, Hadi Al-Eithan, Ali Al-Ramadan, Muhammad Al-Dubaisi, and Mahdi Al-Baik Marwan Al-Khayat.

It is none other than the non-profit, Mawhiba, that is sponsoring the project, which nurtures talented and gifted students in scientific fields in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

According to Dr. Amal Al-Hazaa, Secretary- General of Mawhiba, the team finished intensive training at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology last week and was well-prepared to compete in the IMO.

Dr. Al Hazaa expressed confidence that the Saudi Mathematics Team will add a new achievement to its more than 590 international awards earned over the course of 15 years.

Saudi Arabia has participated in 20 International Mathematical Olympiads, winning eight silver medals, 34 bronze medals, and 16 certificates of appreciation.
