Experts often warn of the need for a proper skin care routine as the first line of defense when the temperature soars because the damages these agents of premature ageing cause are often long-lasting.

The good news is you can combat the effects of radiation and live a healthier life, and all it takes is just a little extra care. A few simple changes in your everyday skincare regimen can set you on the path to healthy glowing skin throughout the season. Dr Piyu Naik, a Specialist Dermatologist at Saudi German Clinic Jumeirah, has shared some simple yet super effective tips to help you get that luminous and radiant go-to gorgeous look you’re after.

From staying hydrated to eating the right foods, here’s how Naik, armed with 12 years of vast experience in treating all types of skin, hair and nail diseases, advises us to achieve the perfect summer skin.

Drink, drink, drink.

Making sure you drink enough water every day is key to staying balanced all season long. Drinking a minimum of two litres of water daily will help you stay hydrated and flush out toxins that can cause breakouts or other skin issues.

Cleansing is key.

Most people experience increased acne and breakouts during this time of the year. When you wash your face with a safe cleanser two or three times a day or as often as needed, you are ensuring you keep your face free of dust, sweat and oil buildup.

Don’t skip that moisturizer.

Cleaning your face often strips the skin of essential oils, making hydrating your skin with a light moisturiser, which helps lock in moisture for a lasting effect, a necessity.

People with skin types ranging from dry to normal should consider using water-based moisturisers, while those with oily skin will find gel-based moisturisers work best.

Invest in good protection.

A quality sunscreen lotion will protect skin from harmful UV rays when you venture out into the sun.

A lotion with minimum SPF of 30 is recommended and must be applied 15 to 20 minutes before exposure.

Overall hygiene can go a long way in tackling summer woes. Bathing twice a day and wearing loose cotton clothes can really help you feel fresh and reduce summer lethargy. It also helps to keep those bad odours at bay.
