Selena Gomez Stuns in First Coach Campaign

Only Selena Gomez can get us to hanker after autumn styles in the middle of an Arabian summer.

It’s a match made in fashion heaven. Ever since the partnership between Selena Gomez and Coach was announced in December, we’ve seen the songstress, actress and producer support the label. She wore a custom Coach look at the Met Gala, sat front row during the label’s fashion show and has been wearing a parade of Coach accessories in some stellar street style looks. But the moment we’ve really been waiting for with baited breath has arrived. Gomez clearly smoulders in her first major ad campaign for the New-York based luxury fashion company. The new fall campaign, which is Gomez’s biggest modelling moment yet, sees the 24-year-old in a series of shots, showing off a slew of pieces from the brand.

Her debut campaign is shot by renowned photographer Steven Meisel and styled by a dream team that includes Fabien Baron (creative direction), Pat McGrath (make-up) and Guido Palau (hair). It captures Coach’s all-American charm, with New York as a backdrop. In the cosy but chic photos, the multi-talented Gomez, who is also a philanthropist, shows off some 70s-inspired fashion, including, of course, the covetable bags the brand is mostly known for. In one shot, she is lounging in the back of a 1976 Plymouth Fury in a prairie dress, clutching an oversized “Coach Swagger” bag. Vintage cars are a recurring sight in Coach campaigns, symbolising the freedom and endless possibilities of life on an open road.

Gomez’s girl-next-door approach and down-to-earth personality have made her an icon for youngsters, who find it easy to connect with her. “Selena is a rebel and a romantic, a dreamer and a doer who boldly charts her own course,” Coach’s Creative Director Stuart Vevers says. “To me, she speaks to a generation; she connects.” Gomez seems equally excited about the collaboration. “I couldn’t be more proud to be the face of Coach,” she says. “I’ve also loved working with Stuart, I admire his vision and his designs.” With such a mutually fruitful union, we’re really wondering if there’s a possibility of Gomez designing a capsule collection for the label.

Additionally, to coincide with the launch of the fall collection, Coach is set to reveal three short films featuring the star. Each video will focus on one of the season’s key bags: the “Rogue,” the “Coach Swagger” and the “Edie.” Created by Baron & Baron, each video features Gomez getting ready for a night out in New York City. This leads to our second burning question. Will The Weeknd indulge her in another perfect boyfriend moment by posting a video on Instagram, like he did with one of the campaign images?
