Chanel Becomes The First Major Fashion House To Donate To Lebanese Charities

The devastating Beirut blast shook the world, after which entities from all over the world banded together to do everything possible to provide medical, humanitarian, and financial aid to Lebanon. The unprecedented explosion destroyed Beirut’s port on August 4th 2020, a date that will never be forgotten, and showing its solidarity with Lebanon, Chanel donated $700,000 to local Lebanese charities.

A statement from the French luxury maison announced that it would be supporting four local charities in Beirut, splitting $700,000 between UNICEF, the Lebanese Red Cross, Amel Association and ACTED. “The catastrophic explosion in Beirut sent Lebanon, a country already impacted by political unrest, economic instability and the current Covid-19 crisis, into further distress and suffering,” said the statement. Chanel has a local presence and valued long-standing partners in Lebanon, some of whom are deeply impacted," the statement read.

While Chanel is the first international fashion house to donate to Lebanon, there have been a number of A-list celebrities who have also offered financial aid to the cause, including The Weeknd, George and Amal Clooney, Bella Hadid, and Arianna Grande, just to name a few.
