Modest Fashion Fans Will Love OSMAN’s Chic SS 2020 Collection
One of London’s most exciting talents served up prints galore, puff sleeves, ruffles, statement shoulders and noteworthy fabrics and textures.
London-based Afghan designer Osman Yousefzada, the whizz behind eponymous label OSMAN, presented one of London Fashion Week’s most modest and elegant shows. For spring/summer 2020, the designer with a fan base that includes a plethora of famous names, including Beyoncé, Alexa Chung and Gwyneth Paltrow, refined his signature cuts and silhouettes and embellished them with new colour and texture.
While attendees sat at the show, surrounded by the Carlton House Terrace’s neoclassical interiors, arresting oil portraits and Georgian-era mint green walls, they were treated to a lineup of dramatic, strong and sculptural volumes. Other details to admire from the day-to-night collection, which included long dresses, two-piece ensembles and capes, were the draped panels, ruched sleeves, enhancing ruffle tiers, sculptural pouches and loops of organza.
Usually inspired by his interest in abstract art, ethnicity and the costume of ancient cultures, the English-born Yousefzada also showed how he excels when it comes to the bold use of colour and hand-drawn print. Lapiz blues, sorbet hues, like a delicate wink of mint, topaz yellows and sulphur greens were some of the standout colours seen on the catwalk. Additionally, cosmic tie-dyes, foliage tracings, including vines and wild jungle patterns, jacquard prints, a delicate blue Wedgwood pattern, as well as a Monet-like water lily one featured in the print-infused collection.
