Al-Solaiman Dons Saudi Arabia’s First Female Dean Hat

Sumayah bint Solaiman Al-Solaiman

Sumayah bint Solaiman Al-Solaiman has been the talk of the town, since her recent ground-breaking appointment as the first female Dean of a design college in the Kingdom, against all odds.

Heading the College of Design at the Imam AbdulRahman bin Faisal University, formerly known as the University of Dammam in the Eastern Province, Al-Solaiman’s nomination comes with a firmly-established experience and unwavering efforts.

A PhD holder in Architecture from the University of Newcastle (UK), Al-Solaiman also holds a master's degree in Architecture from King Faisal University, and has executive certificates in management, leadership, strategy and innovation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Before donning her dean’s hat, she served as the Vice Dean for Quality, Development and Academic Accreditation and Chair of the Graphic Design and Multimedia program at the university.

Among some of her accomplishments, Al-Solaiman was the recipient of the Ibn Khaldun Fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She was also awarded the Prince Mohammad Bin Fahad award for scientific excellence and was presented the best scientific research poster from the University of Newcastle.

She has represented Saudi Arabia in several countries including India, Austria, the United States of America and Britain.
