Saudi teenager, Abdullah Al Tuaimi became the youngest Saudi climber to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro this year. Taking to the fourth highest mountain peak in the world on December 26th 2018, Al Tuaimi completed the 5,895 meter climb in 8 days after climbing for 6 hours per day.
Abdullah’s adventurous summit was organized with the support of Riyadh Schools, and was supervised by certified climber, Saud Al Eidi. The 14 year old took to Instagram following his victorious adventure and stated, “After the hardest and the best 8 days in my life I finally made it to the summit of Mount. Kilimanjaro and became the youngest Saudi to summit Kilimanjaro.”
The young Abdullah Al Tuaimi may be the youngest climber from the kingdom, but last year was momentous for Saudi Arabian Raha Moharrak, who became the first Saudi woman to conquer Mount Everest, and the youngest Arab to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain at the age of 25. The Jeddah based climber went on to conquer a further eight summits and now serves as a brand ambassador for Swiss watch label Tag Heuer.
Al Tuaimi and Raha Moharrak are just two of many stereotype smashing athletes from the KSA. Other Saudis who are revered in their fields include, Halah Alhamrani, who is Saudi’s first female boxing trainer and owner of Flagboxing combat gym, and Sarah Attar, the marathon runner who raced in view of international audiences at the 2012 Olympics in London, becoming the first (hijabi) woman to compete for the kingdom.
